The black ice card technique is quite easy to learn and if you’ve never given it a try? Well…hopefully, this tutorial will inspire you to get crafting and make your own unique greeting card!
This technique works well with a variety of stamp sets and metallic foils. The Faux Metal is just stunning and will be a beautiful background for an a featured image or maybe it’s just the image itself.

Stamp Set: Waves of Inspiration; Cardstock: Basic White, Basic Black, Sahara Sand, Silver Foil; Stamp Pads: StazOn Black; Misc: Stamparatus, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Scissors, Adhesive
- Cut a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Basic Black cardstock, score at 4-1/4″. Fold it in half to create the card base.
- Cut a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Basic White. Center and adhere to cardfront.
- Cut a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Sahara Sand and adhere to the card front.
- Cut a 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ piece of Silver Foil. This is for your background image.
- Stamp the wave in StazOn Black. Lightly swipe the StazOn stamp pad from right to left adding streak. Flip the image layer 90 degrees and add the streaks. Let dry.
- Use a VersaMark stamp pad to randomly add VersMark to the image. Then, sprinkle Clear Embossing Powder over the VersaMark and set with the Heat Tool.
- Cut a 4″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Silver Foil. On this piece, stamp the Pelican and sentiment in StazOn Black. Add Black Ice effect using direction above.
- Add Dimensionals behind the stamped image. Center and adhere to the card front.
- Cut a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Sahara Sand. Center and adhere to the inside of the card.
- Cut a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Basic White. Center and adhere to the Sahara Sand cardstock.

- Cut a 5″ x 3-3/4″ piece of Basic White. Center and adhere to the Sahara Sand cardstock.
