THIS FUN POINSETTIA IS A GREAT GIFT IDEA FOR THE HOLIDAYS.
I love decorating for the holidays! From the outside lights to the tree inside and even the beautiful seasonal pieces that are on display… I love them all!
During this joyful time of the year, we are all looking for fun gifts and ways to delight our friends and family. Have you ever thought about making them a set of handcrafted coasters? If not, you must give this a try!
I have made decorative coasters for so many occasions. I enjoy making them unique and giving them as gifts. I know you will too!
DIRECTIONS
1. With a damp paper towel, wipe the dust from your tile. You want it clean!
2. Ink up your image using StazOn black ink.
3. With a firm and solid pressure, stamp the image to your tile.
Tip: You want to be sure that your stamp has plenty of ink on it. Otherwise, you will not be happy with the stamped image.
Tip: You also want to take note of where the holes or porous spots are in your coaster. You may want to route it so that your sentiment can be stamped in a more smooth spot etc.
4. Let the image dry!
5. You can add color in a couple of ways. You can color it using a sharpie. If you decide to use a sharpie, you will not be able to layer color to create depth.
6. You can also add color using a Blender Pen and Stampin’ Pastels aka Chalk!
7. Color a thin layer of real red to your flower and then continue to layer the color.
Tip: You can use a sharpie to trace various lines to make the image appear more vibrant.
Tip: Keep in mind that your coaster will look dull. The colors will pop beautifully after you glaze and seal it!
8. After you’re finished adding color… decide if you’d like to use Krylon and seal the entire coaster or use crystal effects and seal only the image.
9. If you decide to use crystal effects, then add a thick… not too thick layer of crystal effect over your flower.
Tip: It will take a good 3 to 4 hours for this to dry.
10. Add your jewel rhinestones to the wet crystal effects.
11. Let Dry!
12. Once your coaster is dry, add the foam circles to the bottom to protect the surface it will be displayed on.
13. Wrap or box up a set (4 coasters) and give as a gift!

Loved these so much, I headed to Concord to the home improvement store and bought 3 boxes of them; I think they may have gotten wise to the craft purposes for these tiles because now they have wrapped plastic bands around the boxes and you cannot open them to sort out the smoothest ones. To make a long story short, out of the 3 boxes, I had to return 2 of them because of the deep gouges and chunks chipped out…however, I returned them to a different store site and was delighted to see that that store did NOT have the bands around the boxes…I thought of you sitting in the floor going through the tiles as I was opening box after box and sorting out the smoothest ones I could find…happy girl! So now I have tile coasters stacked up all over my craft room! I colored my image in with Inktense watercolor pencils and used my Wink of Stella brush (clear) over the image and it really brought up the vibrancy of the Inktense and gave the image a soft shimmer. I also inked the edges of the tiles just to give it a little extra something. Thanks for the great idea!
What a great gift idea, the ideas are definitely endless and will definitely be making some for gifts this year.
When the video begins there is a three-drawer filing cabinet under the window. Could you please tell me where you bought it?

Hi Brandy! Thanks so much for your wonderful video! I have made coasters for years and you still taught me a lot of new tips! Are the smooth tiles used on the Nativity and Fifth Avenue Floral coasters also marble, or are they ceramic? I would love to try the smooth ones. Your gift box is so pretty, too!
Hi Laura,
Thanks for stopping by and for the kind comment. I am so glad you are enjoyed my coaster video. I hope you give them a try. They are super fun!!!
Yes, the two types are both Ceramic tiles but one is porous and one is the smooth. You’ll find them next to each other on the shelf at the Home Improvement stores. I wish I would have kept the box but I didn’t it. Sorry 😉
Have a blessed day!

Brandy, doing coasters was one of the first things I learned in a Stampin’ Up class, more then 15 years ago, and over th yeas anaed to ole y instructions, so was very excited to see this video today. Thanks so much for the basics and the different way of owing them:)
I guess I need to proof my comments better. I meant to say over the years managed to lose the instructions, and so glad you had them today.
HI Norma,

Oh Brandy, now I know what to make for next Christmas! These are lovely and I plan to order the supplies. I do have one question though. On the coaster where you used Crystal Effects, I did not see any treatment to the sentiment, Does heat embossing it make it permanent, or do we need to seal the sentiment in some other manner? Thanks for the fun video. Come January, I’ll be getting busy making gifts for next year!
Hi Cindy,
Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comment. I really appreciate it!
The Crystal Effects colors the chalk or sharpie markers that you used. My experience is that the StazOn black ink seems to be OK! I hope that helps. Thanks again and Have a Blessed Day! Brandy
Loved this video on the coasters. I haven’t made coasters in a long time and it was nice to see how you colored them. It is good to see you back again as I have missed your videos. You always do a great job explaining how to make the project/cards.
Hi Virgina,

Beautiful coasters. You have inspired me. I have a box of them in my garage from a bathroom renovation. But also, did you realize they fit perfectly into the Decorative Window Gift Boxes?? And the beautiful image will show through the window. Thanks for sharing!!
Great tutorial! I now know what I’ll be making my Red Hat friends for Christmas. I just purchased this set for my husband to use the poinsettia with his stained glass designs.
